Holidays may be behind us, but that doesn't stop the hunt for gifts going full swing. You may be thinking of ways to find unique and creative gifts for loved ones and friends. With the financial situation everywhere in crisis mode, a vast majority of people are looking for gifts that are affordable and will be greatly appreciated.

To enhance that resourceful and imaginative spirit, there are certain things you can consider when looking for those unusual holiday gifts.

1.Consider Nostalgia - with those people very close to you, you know what they really like and enjoy. Just take a moment and think about how they described the best times of their lives. This can give you an idea of what you can get them that will remind them of those times and make them happy. Try to get them that CD or that DVD on a movie they always loved but are not in their collection. Consider giving them a copy of their favorite books that they had loved reading.

2.Take the time to go sentimental - look back and see if you can pinpoint that wonderful memory you shared together with the person you want to give a gift to. Consider sneaking those old photos out of the album and have a studio make a blown-up historical collage of those photos which you can frame and give as a gift.

3.Up close and personal - people love to see their names engraved on gifts. Consider giving pens with the name of the receiver engraved on it. A beautiful card case, a unique coffee mug, a wallet or purse, or even a stationary tray with names engraved on them can make great gifts. They are affordable, too. You can easily find thick robes or lovely towels that you can have embroidered with your loved ones' names.

4.Made lovingly by your own hands - there can be no other gift more unique than something you have made yourself. If you love to knit then make scarves or even vests. If you love to bake, then a lovely batch of gingerbread cookies will be great for the holidays. You can give your loved ones their favorite cookies, muffins or even cakes. Have fun and be creative. You can make homemade chocolates in crazy shapes for children. Gifts of homemade fruitcake or cured ham can make great gifts. If you love to draw or paint, you can make your own signature mini-paintings and frame them to give as gifts. You can make unique t-shirts having your creative designs by using fabric paint. If you are good with beads, you can make lovely jewelry.

Even someone who loves carpentry can make their own great gifts of jewelry boxes, wooden toys, small racks that can be used to store CDs or books. Wooden lampshades or wooden wall hangings make terrific gifts.

These are just a few things you may consider while looking for those unique and creative gifts for your loved ones this holiday season. There are more gift ideas out there that can ignite the creativity and imagination in you. Just remember that the holidays are meant to be spent with people you love and even the smallest gifts become extra special if given with love. Happy Holidays.
